Hiking near El Nido can be tricky. There are several trails with waterfalls in El Nido you can go hiking on. Each of them comes with a guide. Below, you’ll find our favorites based on the recommendations of the locals!
Kuyawyaw falls is one of the popular waterfalls in El Nido. It is located in Brgy. Cataban municipality Taуtaу,about 45 minutes away from El Nido town by motorbike or 20 minutes from Taуtaу town. Taytay is 236km away from Puerto Princesa City.
We rented a motorbike from the place where we were staying in El Nido. The drive was warm because of the strong sunshine. We took rest in some shades of trees along the road and then continued. We were very excited since it was our first time of exploring El Nido by ourselves after we had our Island Hopping Tour A at the day before.
When we arrived we paid entrance fee of 200 PHP per person and 200 PHP for the guide. The hiking trail has 3 levels. The first waterfall is a 10 minute walk. We crossed a small bridge and then started trekking. Having arrived at the first waterfall, we saw how beautiful it was. The only problem we had is that day we were wearing shoes and didn’t have extra clothes for swimming (tip: go hiking on slippers). But still our guide and the couple we met touring also in Kuyawyaw falls encouraged us to swim and enjoy the water. We also saw some visitors jumping from the top of the first waterfall.
The second waterfall is 10 minutes away too. There are big rocks that can be slippery so be careful. We saw its also beautiful. We took a rest in a small cabana near the waterfall and then start trekking to the last one.
The most beautiful is the third waterfall, it is a hard trekking of 15 minutes. We took pictures and enjoyed. Before we go home the couple we met offered us fresh buko and shared some stories of our stay in El Nido. I am glad too that we made friends while going to an adventure. It is indeed one of our most memorable adventures in El Nido, Palawan
Reminders before going to Kuyawyaw Falls:
Bring extra clothes for swimming.
Bring bottles of water and / or snacks.
Nagkalit-kalit Falls is one of the places you should not miss when you are in El Nido, Palawan. It is also a great stop over before going to Nacpan beach (Best beach in El Nido).
There are several waterfalls signs and parking spaces along the road. After you park the villagers will explain some guidelines and require you to get a tour guide for 200 php/person since path is difficult. As you reach the entrance you will also register your names in a small house and pay 10 php/person before they let you in.
The hike is approximately 30-40 mins. You will pass through rice fields, deep forest and 9 river crossings. The forest is beautiful , butterflies flying around, many kinds of plants, trees and vines entangled above along the pathways. It is not an easy walk on some muddy paths, which could be slippery when its raining. The ascending path as we got nearer to the waterfalls is a very challenging task.
Once you arrive at the Nagkalit-Kalit falls, you will see the crystal clear waters forming a natural pool where you can swim. You can climb the rocks and jump off and amaze yourself with the view of one of the most beautiful nature you will ever see. It’s a good place to relax and enjoy the hidden nature!
How to get there:
You can either hire a tricycle,
Rent a motorbike (500-800 PHP/day)
Through El Nido Inland Tours also known Tour E.
Reminders before going to Nagkalit-kalit falls:
It is better to wear flip-flops instead of shoes (that will get wet anyway).
Bring enough water and light snacks. There is also a restaurant along the area where you can get eat right away.
Check the weather before going its best to go when its not raining or stormy.
The best time to trek Nagkalit-Kalit Falls is between June to December as the lack of rain in the summer and the effects of changing climate have been known to dry up the river that supplies water to the waterfall.
