Bulalo: Filipino Beef Soup

Bulalo is a Filipino beef shank soup that originated in province of Batangas. It has been one of the favorite main dishes in the Philippines and can be found in the menu of many restaurants and eateries.

  • 1 kilo beef
  • 2 onion medium size, cut into quarter
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 2 corns cut one inch thick
  • 1 pechay
  • 1 cabbage cut into quarter
  • 6-7 cup water
  • fish sauce to taste
  • spring onion for garnish (optional)


  1. In a pot boil water, beef, onions and black pepper until beef is tender.
  2. Add the corn. Simmer.
  3. Add cabbage and pechay.
  4. Don’t overcook the vegetables.
  5. Season with fish sauce according to your taste
  6. Garnish with spring onions.
  7. Serve hot!
